Shimmer

[H]e was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white. ~Mark 9:2-3

Grace and peace to you. I pray that you and your loved ones are well.

Tomorrow we hear the story of the Transfiguration, when Jesus takes his closest disciples up a mountain and Jesus appearance changes from the inside out. His clothes shimmer a glistening white and God says, “This is my son, the Beloved.”

The disciples saw Jesus as he truly was– love incarnate. He was radiant. The sight took their breath away. They were stunned.

Imagine standing in the presence of pure love. Perhaps you have: at the birth of a child, the first time you knew yourself to be in love, or the final breath of a beloved. As creatures made in the image of God, we bear God’s love. Glimpsing such love stops us in our tracks. We might feel an inner glow.

As with any mountain-top experience, we return to everyday life. As Jesus and the disciples descended from the mountain, they were met by people in need of healing. Let us, like Jesus and his disciples, take our encounters of love out into the world in need of healing.
