Serve/ Mission

Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen,
in whom my soul delights. ~Isaiah 42:1

–– All are called

Servant ministry

As baptized members of the body of Christ, we inherit Jesus’ role of servant. We’re called by God and helped by the Holy Spirit to bring justice to our community and our world. Through our baptism we become Christ-bearers to the world, promising to take up Christ’s mission. Simply put we are called to put our faith into action.

We carry this out in our daily lives by greeting people kindly, lending a hand when needed, cooking for our family, laughing and consoling others, and filling backpacks with groceries to send home for schoolchildren needing food over long weekends. Through these actions, we “carry on Christ’s work of reconciliation in the world.” St. Peter’s offers a variety of ways to do God’s work in the world, whether it is ministry in the church, in the local community, or internationally. St. Peter’s has opportunities to offer your gifts to build a better community close at home and far away.

–– Feed my sheep. (John 21:17)

Serve Locally

St Peter’s is called to spread God’s love with our local community. Our local mission efforts focus on food, clothing, supplies, refugee resettlement, and housing support. We connect parishioners with a variety of recurring and one-time service opportunities, with a particular interest in intergenerational activities.

–– You will be my witnesses… (Acts 1:8)

Serve Internationally

St. Peter’s also seeks to meet global community needs. Our international efforts support long-standing relationships with the Dominican Republic and Capetown, South Africa. When responding to global disaster and recovery efforts, we work through Episcopal Relief and Development.

–– The gifts he gave were … to equip the saints for the work of ministry. (Ephesians 4:11-12)

Serve in the Church

The Apostle Paul teaches that every person has a gift for ministry. Every member of the St. Peter’s community contributes to the life of the community in some way. We offer opportunities to lead worship as an acolyte, reader, chalice bearer, or usher; care for parishioners; host gatherings; teach Sunday School for children, youth, or adults; and help with a variety of one-time events.
