Homes not Borders
Homes Not Borders is a local organization that supports refugees, Special Immigrant Visa holders, asylum-seekers, and other forced migrants in the Washington, D.C. area. Their mission is to help newcomers receive what they need to thrive and feel at home in the United States.
Helping newly arrived neighbors feel at home
Saint Peter’s has partnered with Homes Not Borders in the past through apartment set-ups for newly arrived families. Parishioners helped make homes ready by arranging household goods, making beds, putting away dishes, hanging pictures, and adding signs of welcome and care.
At this time, Saint Peter’s does not have an active volunteer team serving regularly with Homes Not Borders. We are grateful for the ministry we have shared with them in the past, and we hope there may be opportunities to serve together again in the future.
What Homes Not Borders does
For many newly arrived families, the first welcome in a new country begins with a safe, furnished, and comfortable place to live. Homes Not Borders provides furniture and household items for new homes, along with personal touches such as rugs, pictures, small appliances, side tables, and toys. Their work helps transform an empty apartment into a place where a family can begin again with dignity.
Homes Not Borders also offers ways for volunteers to help with food packing and delivery, warehouse organizing, home set-ups, and longer-term newcomer support through their Newcomers to Neighbors program.
