What We Believe

We follow Jesus into Loving, Liberating and Life-Giving Relationships

–– An Episcopal Church

The Jesus Movement

St. Peter’s is an Episcopal church committed to Jesus’ way of love. We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world.

We believe that Scriptures are the inspired Word of God and require interpretation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The core message of Scripture is to love one another as God loves us.

We have a tradition of inclusion and of striving to tell and exemplify God's love for every human being.

–– We seek the truth by asking questions

Our Core Commitments

We are committed to seeking truth by asking questions and striving to live as the people of God. Our core commitments are expressed in the Baptismal Covenant. The Baptismal Covenant begins with the Apostle’s Creed, which recalls all that God has done for us. We respond to God’s faithfulness with five promises to live as the people of God.

While we may live these promises differently, at their heart is a shared commitment to follow Jesus’ loving, liberating, life-giving way of love.

–– All are welcome

The Middle Way

We are people of the Middle Way. Having grown out 3rd-century Celtic spirituality and later shaped by the 16th century Reformation, Episcopalians straddle both catholic and reformed traditions. We are a people of the middle way. We meet God in beautiful liturgy and find truth in Scripture. We wrestle with questions of faith by drawing on Scripture, reason, and tradition.

Because we straddle catholic and reformed traditions, people from a variety of religious traditions–Methodists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, Mormons, and people from other denominations and religions–find a home here. All are welcome.
