Beverly and Lloyd Kuhn
Beverly and Lloyd Kuhn were part of the founding generation at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in the early 1960s. They were both native Ohioans, and met while attending the University of Cincinnati Law School (UC) in the 1940s. Beverly was among the first women to attend that law school. Lloyd’s studies at UC were interrupted by World War II, where he served as a lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division in Europe. Lloyd returned to the University of Cincinnati and graduated from law school there in 1948. Beverly and Lloyd had two sons – Stephen and Robert.
Beverly and Lloyd served many roles at St. Peter’s. Beverly’s ministry included service as a member of the Vestry, the choir, the altar guild, and most other causes and committees within the parish. Lloyd was a member of our first vestry, and continued serving in that capacity and as a senior warden in the years that followed.
Both Beverly and Lloyd maintained active professional careers and civic service to the community.
Beverly was Director of the Fellowship Office at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C., where she worked for thirty-five years, retiring in 1993. She was very active in the Arlington community, serving as Chairwoman of the Service League of Northern Virginia and volunteering in their Thrift Shop over many years. Beverly volunteered at the Sheltered Occupation Center of Northern Virginia, and later was a fundraiser for the Arlington Free Clinic.
Lloyd was a Congressional staffer on Capitol Hill in the mid-1950s, then built a thirty-year career at the Aerospace Industries Association, where he retired as Vice President for Legislative Affairs in 1988. Lloyd was active in the Arlington Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and served as President of the local school PTA. He was also a tireless fundraiser in Arlington politics during the 1960’s and 1970’s. In the 1990’s he and Bev hosted many fundraisers for the Arlington Free Clinic.
Lloyd died in 2006 and Beverly in 2008. They are interred in our Memorial Garden.
