Arise, Shine

Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.  ~Isaiah 60:1

Grace and peace to you on the Feast of the Epiphany. I pray that the Christmas Season has brought you closer to Jesus, the Word incarnate. May you know in your heart that you are a beloved child of God, called to shine Jesus’ light in the world.

Barbara Brown Taylor began her sermon for the feast of the Epiphany this way, “Once upon a time there are three—yes, three, very wise scholars of the natural sciences…They are sitting around in their own countries minding their own business when a bright star lodges in the right eye of each of them. It is so bright that none can tell whether it is burning in the sky or in their imaginations, but they are wise enough to know that it does not matter. The point is, something beyond them is calling them, and it is a tug they have been waiting for all their lives.”

I invite you to arise this day and take a moment to wonder what epic journey is calling you. What is worth giving your very life to? Something indeed is calling you to a life beyond yourself. Give yourself to this call. This journey will draw you, and us, closer to the God who made us and to one another. Arise, shine!

See you tomorrow for an All-parish Epiphany Event at 9 AM, including king’s cake, a Magi photobooth, stardust, and more. Join us for for worship at 8 AM or 10:15 AM where we will welcome four children to the epic journey of the Christian life through baptism. It will be a glorious morning.
