Bread
When we celebrate the Eucharist, we remember the words of Jesus at the last supper. He took the bread, gave thanks, blessed the bread and said: “This is my body, given for you.” This bread, this ordinary bread is my body. I am giving it to you so that you might have life and have it abundantly. I am giving it to you so that you will never be hungry. Jesus had been feeding people both literally and figuratively throughout his life – giving them food for their bellies and nourishment for their souls. And now he gives himself.
When we celebrate the Eucharist, we believe Jesus is truly present in the bread and the wine in a real yet mysterious way… a way that awakens a yearning for wholeness and fulfillment, not just for ourselves but for our neighbors as well. At the table, we are fed and we recommit ourselves to following Jesus, which is the way of love and life.
Come worship together. Be fed.
