Into the deep

Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch. ~Luke 5:4

Grace and peace to you on this rainy Saturday afternoon. It’s pretty dreary out there.

Tomorrow we will hear two call stories – God’s call to the prophet Isaiah in the Temple and God’s call to Simon Peter on the shores of Lake Gennesaret.

Both men are awestruck and claim that they are unworthy of God’s call. Truth be told, none of us is worthy of the ways God claims our lives. Not Isaiah. Not Peter. Not you. Not me. Yet, God calls each of us. By acknowledging that we cannot go it alone, we open ourselves up to receiving God’s strength and provision. God will give us what we need.

And God doesn’t call us to just any life. Notice that Jesus invites Simon Peter to throw his nets into the deep water. In the depths of life, Simon Peter will find fulfillment. God calls us to unimaginable.

Friends, don’t be afraid. Dive into the deep. God will be with you and give you what you need. The world’s too beautiful not to be all in.
