The Lord’s

The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it,
the world and all who dwell therein. – Psalm 24:1

Dear friends,

Peace and grace to you on this gorgeous fall day. The trees on our five-acre wooded campus are breaking out in colorful song, revealing the glory of God.

A number of you have expressed to me a sense of anxiety as we approach election day. In understand. Our nation is polarized. The results of Tuesday’s election of the President of the United States along with Senators, Representatives, local officials, and other local ballot initiatives will not resolve this division. As a country, we have much work before us.

It is my fervent prayer that we are part of the healing of this division. As a people of God, we hold onto the certain hope that God’s intention for the flourishing of all creation will one day be so. As the psalmist proclaims, “The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world and all who dwell therein.” God is God of all people, and loves all people.

God has given us free will and with that comes responsibility. We are called to do our part to fulfill God’s dream. We are called to build relationships with our neighbors, whoever they may be. We are called to care for the well-being of all people, whoever they may be. We are called to love one another, with no exceptions. Every person is made in the image of God with infinite value, worthy of respect and dignity.

How do we maintain hope? Remain rooted in your primary identity as a beloved child of God. Know that you are loved. Do what you are able. Let go. Pray. I offer this prayer from our Book of Common Prayer:

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP, p. 822)

On Tuesday, November 5th, Rev. David will lead Noonday Prayer at 12 noon. I will lead Evening Prayer at 5 PM. Join us at the church in the Campbell Chapel if you are able.
